About Sahi New York
I'm A. Sahi. Just me, a workbench, and a lot of leather. No factory, no team, no shortcuts.
But I didn't start out as a leatherworker. For years I worked as a Certified Public Accountant. My days were spent behind a desk, closing books and reconciling numbers for other people's businesses. It was steady work, but it never quite felt like mine.
How It Actually StartedLeathercraft began as something to do with my hands after work. I picked up a few basic tools, watched a lot of tutorials, made plenty of mistakes, and eventually put together a wallet I was proud of. I gave it to a friend as a gift.
Then I made one for another friend. Then a belt for someone else. People kept asking where I'd bought these pieces, and were genuinely surprised every time I told them I made it myself.
The same thing kept happening. Someone would get a piece, use it for a while, and come back and say something like you should really sell these. I heard that enough times from enough people that I started to believe it.
So I made a decision that felt a little uncertain at the time. I left my accounting career behind and turned a hobby I loved into Sahi New York.
Why I Still Make Everything MyselfEvery single item on this site passes through my hands. I cut it, I stitch it, I finish it. I use full grain, vegetable tanned leather sourced from North America, and hardware sourced locally, because I do not believe in cutting corners on the parts nobody sees.
Every stitch is sewn by hand with two needles instead of a machine. It takes longer, but it holds up better, and I only know how to make things the way I would want to own them myself.
What I Actually Care AboutI did not leave a stable career to make things that fall apart in a year. I want to make items that get better with time: a wallet that softens and darkens the more you carry it, a bag that is still holding strong after a decade of daily use. Simple, useful, and built to last.
I still rely mostly on word of mouth to grow, the same way this whole thing started. If you own something from Sahi New York and you like it, telling a friend or family member means more to me than any ad campaign ever could.
